MINNEAPOLIS -- A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until early Monday for most of the central and southern Minnesota.
A second wave of snow is pushing into the south metro and will move across most of the metro slowly through the late afternoon and evening hours. This band alone will drop several inches of snow with possible thunder. Snowfall rates could exceed 1-2" per hour at times.
Snow will continue through most of the day on Sunday and into tonight and Monday morning. The rain/snow line looks like it will remain in far southern Minnesota. That will put heavy snow in across central and south central Minnesota throughout the day Sunday. Expect some drifting and blowing of snow with winds NE 15-30 mph. Blizzard conditions will occur in western Minnesota and close to it at times in the metro. Totals through evening will be up to 5 to 10" across the metro with an additional 4 to 8" overnight and another 1 to 2" during the morning Monday making for a metro total of 10 to 15" of fresh snow. The heaviest accumulations will be further into west central Minnesota with 14 to 20" (possibly 2 feet in isolated places).
Areas around I-90 will have icy accumulations with a wintry mix falling throughout the day and up to 3-7" of snowfall.
Stay tuned for more details.
